Coming off the heels of a Final Four season in 2002, the Kansas Jayhawks were poised to make it back in 2003. With returning stars Kirk Hinrich and Nick Collison, KU entered the season ranked #2 in the AP Poll.
A rough 3-3 start to the season meant little long term as Kansas reeled off 10 straight wins on their way to another Big 12 regular season championship. A 24-6 regular season record earned KU the #2 seed in the West Region of the NCAA Tournament. Once there they squeaked by Utah State before blowing out Arizona State to reach the Sweet 16.
Two huge wins over #3 seed Duke and #1 seed Arizona put the Jayhawks back in the Final Four! What happened there was one of the most dominant Final Four performances in the history of the NCAA Tournament. Kansas 94 - Marquette 61.
Dwyane Wade proved no match for Hinrich, Collison and Kansas in one of the most lopsided routes in Final Four history. "Some people could say we reached the pinnacle of our game today. I hope there's still something left in us," Roy Williams said after the game.
The Jayhawks would lose a heartbreaker to Syracuse two nights later in the National Championship game, 81-78.
